Laughter and an Economics Lesson

I have very little time to write. I’ve been spending my time reading other blogs and trying to get my new wonderful laptop to work properly. My laptop looks like a Harley Hog shoved into a laptop container. 🙂

So here’s the laughter first. Ariane Barnes not only makes me think (see her comments about Virtual World Philosophy but now she’s making me laugh.

The economics lesson has been fascinating, and much better than anything I endured in B-school. For me, it started here with Chestnut Rau discussing her opportunity to stage shows at Molaskey’s pub in SL. Sophrosyne Stenvaag commented on Chestnut’s blog, and mentioned her own conflict about the nature of business and economics within SL. Soph in turn pointed us all to Kim Smith’s & Rissa Maidenstone’s blog. Then Kim Smith responded . There are comments from many others on both websites and discussion back and forth on the topic. The heart of the discussion concerns fair pay for services rendered and how economic choices alter the fabric of society, whether real or virtual.

For those of you who think that SL is nothing more than a glorified chat room, think again. There really is a future happening there.

Good Job on the blog, Ahuva! It’s refreshing to read about your journey as a new resident, and your posts always bring back memories! I love how you laugh at yourself along the way, instead of feeling insecure among the veteran residents. (As you ‘materialize’ in a chair) 🙂
