I Wanna be a Big Rock Star

Just like Von Johin of SL. I’ve posted before how much I love his music. I’m not alone in thinking Von is fantastic. He’s recorded CDs under his RL name. But his new album: it’s being released under his SL name!!!

On September 28, Von Johin’s album ‘Von The Revelator’ on LocoBop Records will be released. There is a ‘Cd Release Party’ in the works. Please visit the website, vonjohin.com, for full details.

MY understanding is that the party is going to be at Von’s standing Tuesday night gig: Dr. John’s Prim Economy on Isere at 7pm SLT.

The Vonettes are rumored to be planning a surprise as well. *grin* Don’t know who the Vonettes are? Better get on down to the party!!

So until we are rocking Isere with Von, I will practice my moves! See you all there! It will be a blast!

SLCC 2010

I’m heading to Boston this weekend for SLCC. I’ve swung back and forth from great excitement to “why am I bothering?”. My dear friend Chestnut is worrying about meeting SL friends in our atomic form. *grin* Ah, sweetie – you are beautiful, inside and out. If you wore a paperbag over your head – your beauty shines through. We love you. It will be okay. I promise.

I was extremely excited about going from a professional point of view. I hoped to meet folks with whom I shared the interest and passion for building and developing in virtual worlds. I’m still looking forward to meeting those people, but that does not appear to be the career path down which my feet will be walking. Maybe those folk will rekindle my enjoyment of building. Unfortunately I let that slip to the side as I focused on other avenues.

I was extremely excited about meeting Philip Linden. I am disappointed that he won’t be there in person, but I am so glad that he has the sense to make his family a priority. That increases my respect for him. I was already impressed by him from his talk the other day. Again – I was hoping that meeting him would fan my faded enthusiasm for things virtual.

I was also somewhat reluctant to tie my virtual self to my physical reality. I’m not sure why. I only once met someone in SL who scared me. Someone who I thought might stalk me, harm me, wish me ill. Considering all of the people I have met in just over 2 years, that’s not a bad percentage. I have offered to meet so many SL friends for real. I HAVE met SL friends for real. Yes, the first time I did that WAS scary. But you know what? It was wonderful. We were still us. *grin* We were in RL as we were in SL. It was grand.

So now the clock is ticking. The day is approaching. And I find that I am becoming more and more excited. (LOL – this is probably a case of cognitive dissonance, but hey, what the heck. It’s working FOR me.)

I am VERY excited about seeing my friends, meeting new friends. I have come to realize that, for the most part, I am in SL for the social networking. I suspect that is a very déclassé admission. I loved Dusan Writer’s post about the dots on the grid. Unless I am at a music event or a friend has dropped in (or I am on a Midnight Mania board run), I tend to come inworld, make myself comfy in my sky box, and chat. One lone green dot who is not alone.

I am looking forward to meeting Dusan Writer and hearing him speak. I’m looking forward to hearing many of the other presenters as well. There is a difference between hearing and seeing someone speak and merely hearing them.

This last will come as no surprise to those of you who know me. I can’t wait to party with everyone. *grin* I am looking forward to the avatar ball Saturday night, when we can let out all our SL’ness. Okay, maybe let out a LOT of our SLness, not all of it. *grin* I have had my few weeks of introverted respite. I am ready to don my extroverted self, my Ahuva kick-butt shoes, and dance the night away.

Can’t wait to see you there!

AH2B

Hey! Today is my Rezday. I’m 2. *grin* Happy Rez day to me! The ducks and I celebrated by hanging out in the water together. *smile* We don’t always see things the same way, but we are family.

Dancing the Night Away!

Saturday night’s alright for fighting (according to Elton John), but Friday night is for dancing the night away (according to Ahuva). I started the night at the Music Park at Prim Economy, listening to Komuso. Ah, Ko, I love starting my weekends with you!!

Next I headed off to join a good friend at a party, where Satin Xi was DJ’ing great tunes! The contest of the evening was Best in Black. I went through about 3 outfits before I arrived there. But everyone around me kept changing outfits so I did as well! *grin* Hey – girls just want to have fun.

From there, off to Tribeca Blues, where Calli was DJ’ing up jazz and blues and songs of love and loss and a little lust. How could I resist? The room was full of good friends and great music. So I convinced Dale to dance with me. Dale and I have been keeping a photo album of our dances together – we both enjoy dancing so much. Dale’s pics are soooo much better than mine, so I stole this one to share. Is that great hair action or what?

Today, the good times roll on, albeit in RL. It’s spring: warm, sunny, gorgeous, perfect. The following has been playing in my head all morning. Extra credit if you can identify the VERSION, not just the source. *grin* By the way – if you use Google to get this – you are cheating. :)

For, lo, the winter is past,
the rain is over and gone;
the flowers appear on the earth;
the time of the singing of birds is come,
and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;

Yes, Virginia, There is a Sandbox

(with apologies to Francis Pharcellus Church and the New York Sun *grin*)

I have mentioned my friend Tez here before. He is an extremely talented builder, scripter and artist, and I am proud to be on his friends list. Tez is the curator for the IBM Exhibition sims. I’ve written about the fantastic shows that have been hosted there. Tez is also part of the IBM Sandbox, which was on the IBM 6 sim. I’ve gone there with friends to build. It is full of both people and signs to help aspiring builders. There is always something happening there. Apparently the sandbox has moved, as have the exhibition spaces. It’s too late for you to attend the grand re-opening party (sorry, I was a bit pre-occupied at the time and didn’t share that info). But you CAN still attend exhibitions and work in the sandbox. And the NEXT time there is a sandbox party I will try to remember to invite you, too! *grin* In the meantime, you can find the eye-straining photos on my flickr account.

IBM EXHIBITION SPACE REBOOT
Since 2006, IBM has maintained a presence in Second Life which has included the venerable IBM 6 sandbox, a home and training ground for some of the grids most talented builders, both IBMers and non IBMers, and the IBM 2 and IBM 3 Exhibition Sims. Through the operation of these areas, IBM has recognized that community building and social content creation are a key part of the value of virtual worlds.

As of February 2010, the IBM Center for Social Software is pleased to take this a step further, announcing the opening of a brand new three-sim estate in Second Life, as well as a four-sim OpenSim estate on ReactionGrid, all dedicated to the production and exhibition of virtual artworks.

In addition to the continued operation of a public sandbox in Second Life, the IBM Exhibition Sims will feature two full class 5 sims available for large scale public art projects.

The Exhibition Space believes strongly in support for an open platform that provides the archival and import/export tools that art making requires. Accordingly, the Exhibition Space will also include four OpenSim based servers located on the publicly accessible ReactionGrid

The IBM Exhibition space is curated by Andrew Sempere, Research Designer at IBM’s Center for Social Software (SL: Tezcatlipoca Bisiani), and will showcase immersive installations of virtual art and architecture as examples of the cutting edge of what is possible in 3d virtual worlds. For more information, please visit our website at: exhibitionspace.org

Artists and virtual content creators who are interested in showcasing their work at the Exhibition Space should apply at the website address provided above.

Plurk Party

You know you are at an SL happening when you’ve been there for over 30 minutes and the people are all still gray. You know you are at a happening when the local chat is so full that it makes no sense because the comments appearing are in response to something that was said 20 lines above. You know you are at a happening when individuals keep crashing. So in that way, the local chat almost makes sense because a lot of it is “wb” and “ty” and “omg i crashed again”. You know you are at a happening when you finally the crash the sim itself.

Yesterday was the initial Plurk Party in SL of 2010. Okay – I admit this freely. I have no idea if there were Plurk parties in 2009. Or if there will be more Plurk parties in Sl in 2010. The party was held in Forever Young, in Serena Almeria. I believe we had 3 hosts, but I only remember the names of two: Di Hoorenbeek and Barbara Nicholls. :( Yes, I am very bad for not knowing all the hosts. Thank you all for setting up the party and providing a venue!

I’d heard the “talk” on Plurk about the party. I wasn’t sure I’d be home at that time. As it turned out, I was home about 2 hours after the party began. There were plurks all over about the party was great, come on down and plurkers not able to tp into the sim because it was full. I tried repeatedly for about 5 minutes and finally got in. There were 68 people in the club when I rezzed. Ouch. Gray people, natch. I’d been IM’ing with HellSpawneD. LOL – I could see him only a few meters away (well, I could see his name and gray shape) but I couldn’t WALK there, the lag and crowd were so horrific. So he tp’d me right to the middle of the dance floor, which is where I stayed until the sim crashed. According to the local chat, there had been as many as 87 folks in the sim at one time. :) It’s been a long time since I’ve been in such a full sim and that was a live concert.

It was fun to see all the different names, hear everyone laughing. Rusch Raymaker was DJ’ing at the time. Oh my, that woman has the most gorgeous sexy voice. She could read the phone book and make it sound thrilling. I made 2 new Plurk friends – people who are friends of friends of mine and I see their names/plurks. I tp’d Chestnut in. That made a grand total of FOUR people who I knew out of that crowd. *grin* There are a LOT of plurkers in SL.

So the sim crashed and we slowly rezzed back in and partied on. :) This time I pulled my draw rate way way down and since I was one of the first back, I actually saw something other than gray. :) I have no idea how long the party lasted. After 90 minutes I needed some RL dinner. I tp’d home, logged and waited til it was time to come back inworld to hear Fricker Fraker’s music. Talk about polar opposites. That was last night’s music adventures.

Office Party

I found myself with some time on my hands today. And new holiday decorations from friends. As I have run out of prims at my home, :( , I decided to decorate my office. Yes, I do still have my office and I even go and hang out there occasionally. Oura made the beautiful poinsettia tree and Honour made (and is selling) the wreaths at Aintree Gardens. I think maybe I need to throw an office party. Oh – first I need to find lamps with lampshades. THEN the room will be ready for a party.

CnP Turned 2!

I love the Crown and Pearl. I love the place, the people. They throw the best parties. I wandered over the other night, feeling a bit down. BD was DJ’ing, friends were there. We all got on one chim and danced. Soon I was smiling and feeling great and having a wonderful time. So imagine what it’s like when they make an EFFORT at throwing a party.

This weekend was the 2nd anniversary celebration party. Four hours, 4 wonderful DJs: Bailey Longcloth, Aribeth Coronet, Rrishanna Regina and Bailey Dazy. Each took a different decade, starting with the 60s. Each did, as always, a fantastic job. I must say, however, that BD really got the most difficult task – the 90s. I ask you – was there ANYTHING worth hearing in the 90s??? *grin* As I typed that, I realized that one of my favorite songs is from the 90s: Rod Stewart’s “Rhythm of My Heart”. The party was going great, as to be expected. Folks changed attire with the decade. Then we hit the 80s and Honour brought out her Michael Jackson outfit. You KNOW what happened THEN. *grin* We all lined up, put on our Thriller AOs and the Crown and Pearl Dancers were born!!!

By the time we moved into the 90s, it really didn’t matter that there was no decent music worth mentioning. *grin* We were having so much fun and BD found the few good songs, and we danced on into the night.

The complete Thriller line-up and other shots are all up on Flickr.

Rez Days

even skeletons need fun

Unbelievable. HellSpawneD and Prad have been in SL for 3 years now, and SL is still standing. *grin* Kind of hard to believe, isn’t it? And aren’t our lives richer for knowing them both. I caught up with Hell and Natalya the night before REZDAY. It was a wonderful re-entry for me. I seem to have been over-doing RL again and dropped from the land of the living for awhile. pogoing at the U'barHell and Nat were at a really fantastic club – or maybe it was the really fantastic DJ’s: Cher and Carmine at the U’Bar in Lusiana. I was really enjoying the music and then, of course, things got crazy. I don’t have the picture of me in full dragon avatar (go see the pictures from Cringe and Wear It ) wearing high heels instead of dragon feet. But I only did it because I felt compelled to match Hell’s red monster av. *grin* NOT my fault. At some point in the proceedings Cher and Carmine passed out pogo sticks to everyone in the bar. What fun! :) Not only did I get a pogo stick, but I learned new British slang too. :) Live and learn!

What the well-dressed rezzer wearsLast night was the celebration for Prad at the C2P. *grin* Talk about getting out of control….. The chat log is x-rated, the DJ’ing was x-rated. Some of the outfits were x-rated. Great music. I think we can say that a good time was had by all. I took waaaaaaaay too many pictures to post here. If you want to see all the incriminating photos (there was a rumor that Prad was DJ’ing au natural) go to my Flickr account.

Happy Rez Day, Prad and Hell!!! You RAWK!

And the Winners Are….

Most Original - Zha

Ugliest - Ravenne in liederhosenI give up. I have way too many photos to do this properly. They are all up on Flickr. Go look there. *grin* We had 4 categories for prizes. Unfortunately, I’m not sure if I got photos of all of the winners. :( I think I have MJ, but I’m not sure. And Elise was camera-shy – so I did the best I could. I think. LOL. Honestly – I never really got so SEE anyone – I had ten IM windows open and was passing inventory like a crazed person. If I have them wrong – someone find the right pictures in Flickr and I’ll update the post.
